Talk on Inflammation Reducing Diets With Abi Morrison On March 9th 7-8:30pm

A talk on inflammation reducing diets will be given at Good Tern Natural Foods Cooperative Market on Wednesday, March 9, 7-8:30 pm, by licensed acupuncturist Abi Morrison. The talk will include a tour of the store. The event is free, but please pre-register at 594-8822. The Co-op is located at 750 Main St., in Rockland.

Ms. Morrison was licensed by the College of Integrated Chinese Medicine in the U.K. in 2001 and then received her Masters at Tri-State College of Acupuncture in New York City in 2005, with an emphasis on Japanese style. She incorporates bodywork techniques, chi kung, and dietary counseling into her practice, which is located at the Center for Health & Healing, 17 Masonic St., in Rockland.

About the talk, Morrison says, “Joint pain and any number of circulatory or immune problems can be the body’s response to highly inflammatory foods. I will introduce simple ways to use and cook foods that lower the inflammatory response, including gluten-free whole grains and dairy and low carbohydrate alternatives. “

She says the talk brings together thinking from Asian healing diets and other traditional and contemporary approaches to help find the ideal foods for one’s individual metabolism – and in a budget-conscious way.Abi Morrison

HeartMath with Carol Howell this Saturday 10am

Learn about stress management techniques at a workshop given by Carol Howell at Good Tern Natural Foods Co-op, 750 Main St., Rockland, on Saturday, November 21, from 10 to 11:30 am.

Scientists tell us that stress adversely affects health, as well as our ability to think clearly and act wisely.

Ms. Howell believes that day to day stress often deepens with holiday

expectations, and that the winter season is a good time to hone stress reduction skills. At her talk she will discuss the benefits of stress management techniques developed by the HeartMath Institute and offer the public the opportunity to have hands-on experience with their software tools, which were designed to reinforce these new skillsets. The techniques also make it easier to navigate change.

Ms. Howell, who first heard about HeartMath in the mid-1990’s, is a certified HeartMath ™ Coach and began coaching in February, 2015. She says: “I was delighted to find a way to learn the techniques for myself and then share them with others.”

Good Tern Natural Foods is a cooperative market specializing in organic and locally grown products, whose further mission is to educate co-op members and the greater community about whole foods, health and nutrition, food sources and to further cooperative principles and self-reliance. The Co-op is open to all and new members are always welcome. FMI: 594-8822.
