The following member-owners have expressed interest in being elected to serve on The Board of Directors. The election will be held at our Annual Meeting on May 4th. Potluck dinner begins at 5pm with business meeting immediately following at Rockland Congregational Church. Our ideal Board consists of 10 member-owners. Interested in putting your name in? Contact current president mttpsy@roadrunner.com

I am interested in continuing to serve on Good Tern BOD. I began this term in Nov, 2012 after attending a meeting to hear more of Coop expansion plans and to voice my concerns about same. Board members at that meeting invited me to join the Board. I live in Rockland and have been a member of Good Tern since 1984. I served on the Board for most years between 1984 and 1994, including terms as Board Treasurer and President. Prior to membership at Good Tern, I was a member of other pre-order and storefront food coops in Maine and Massachusetts, and worked in various positions at these coops, including Manager of a storefront in Worcester, Mass. ~Paul Chartrand

I am a fairly new member of the Good Tern, with a long interest and significant background in cooperatives and cooperation. I’ve been active in food co-op formation efforts in several different communities, and have studied cooperative economics and the cooperative movement extensively. As a local farmer (Washington), I’m a strong believer in local food systems and economic democracy.
Please let me know if there’s anything else I can do at this time!
~Davis Taylor

My name is John Lichtman. I would like to be elected to the Good Tern Board because I have had a life-long interest in healthy food co-ops. I’ve been a vegetarian for 39 years. I have belonged to food co-ops in Eugene, OR (1974) and Boston Food Co-op in Allston (1979) as well as Good Tern in 1987. I had served on the local SAD 40school board for 12 years, from 1996- 2008, representing Friendship. I have been building custom homes in the mid-coast for the past 28 years. I would like to focus on expanding the capacity of the Good Tern to serve more people from a variety of backgrounds by facilitating our ability to offer a wider range of selections and provide clear information on authentic, healthy content. ~John Lichtman

I hereby put my name in as a board member for the 2013-2016 term. ~Gregory Moore

I am interested in joining the Good Tern Board. I have been a working member of the coop, since my wife and I moved to Rockland in 2011. I have also served on the Outreach and Education Committee since 2012.
I am a retired Attorney, (since 2002) having practiced in Southern Maine for many years. I am a Master Gardener and served on the Cumberland County Master Gardener Board from 2006- 2010. I have a long history of community organizing, and support small and local over big and corporate. I hope I can help the Good Tern continue to serve the folks of Greater Rockland. Thanks….~Marty Schindler

I wish to put my name forward as a candidate for Board of Directors. I have been a member and involved in food cooperatives since 1979, including membership in Brattleboro, VT; Belfast, ME; Buying Club in Chinle, Dinetah (Arizona); Silver City, NM; Boston, MA and the Good Tern, Rockland, ME. I am also a current member and worked as a volunteer programmer at WERU Community Radio for 15 years, including 2 years on the Program Advisory Board at the Station. Until very recently, I worked as a hired staff member at the Good Tern for approximately two and a half years, managing both Produce and Bulk Departments during that time. As a result I have an intimate understanding of the functional day to day operation at the Good Tern. Presently I am a working member at the Good Tern, coordinating education and implementation of a no GMO policy at the Coop. I intend to continue this work through the foreseeable future. Please place my name forward for consideration as a Board of Directors member at the Good Tern. Thank you! Peace to you, Byron

ROCKLAND – On Friday, April 26, from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., the Oceanside East High School Foundations Program will be planting an orchard beside the garden behind Youthlinks, and the community is being invited to be a part of this exciting event.

The trees, being donated by ReTreeUs, includes seven apple trees, three peach trees, and three plum trees. ReTreeUs is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting an environmentally sustainable, socially just food system by planting orchards in schools and providing educational programs that empower young people and their families to grow their own home gardens.

Volunteers will assist with digging holes, amending soil, installing trees, and mulching trees. Homemade bagels and spreads will be provided for volunteers, prepared by the students chefs in the Oceanside East High School Foundations Program. The students, under the supervision of teacher Jesse Bartke, have spent the year earning English, Science, and general credit learning to garden, cook, and perform other healthy living skills.

A variety of local community partners, including Youthlinks, Good Tern Natural Foods, the University of Maine Cooperative Extension, Knox-Lincoln, and Lovering & Associates have collaborated to contribute to this effort and help cultivate food systems education in RSU 13. In addition, Station Maine will be harvesting seaweed with students and donating it to mulch the trees.

For more information, contact Genna Cherichello, FoodCorps Service Member with the University of Maine Cooperative Extension, Knox-Lincoln, at genna.cherichello@foodcorps.org.
